Pizza Express will land their first US location in Flordia
One of the UK’s biggest food chains has decided to take their business international. Pizza Express announced their “Britalian” cuisine to the US.
The 60-year-old company has teamed up with Purple Square Management Company, a large business networking company, to open its first location in Florida next year.
“This is a full circle moment to bring a brand I’ve loved and grown up with in London to a new market eager for an elevated pizza experience,” Vik Patel, President of Purple Square, said.
“We know this concept has the potential to resonate with U.S. consumers in a truly unique way,” Patel said. The experienced entrepreneur recently partnered with Dunkin Donuts to open a restaurant in Louisiana and runs 27 restaurants in Florida and two in Alabama. The company has planned to reach 1,000 restaurants globally by 2030, and the push to the US will fulfill this. Pizza Express has already opened 360 restaurants in the UK, including Ireland, and 100 international and franchise sites in Hong Kong, UAE, India and Spain. “This marks a major milestone in our global journey, as we introduce our brand to one of the world’s most dynamic markets,” Chris Holmes, chief development officer at Pizza Express, said, adding that he wants to “raise the bar for pizza” in the States.
Brits love Pizza Express and executives hope that US audiences will too
Although the US pizza market has long been saturated with pie chains, Holmes and Patel are confident that the launch in the US “will inspire a new wave of dining experiences across the country.”
Food enthusiasts have called PizzaExpress “proper pizza,” as it fuses “Italian inspiration and British creativity.” In 1965, Pizza Express founder Peter Boizot brought a pizza oven back to London from a trip to Italy and thus began the restaurant. To honor Boizot, the featured menu named one of their pies, The American Pizza, after Boizot’s American girlfriend from the franchise’s early years.
Foodies in the UK have favored popular menu items such as the Padana with goat cheese and caramelized onions or La Reine with ham, black olives, and mushrooms. Patel said these dishes have the potential to resonate with US consumers, who will love them just as much.
