Vik Patel looked around Northwest Florida for the right location to introduce his upscale craft beer bar and restaurant, the Brass Tap.
He looked at sites in Destin and Sandestin, but ultimately decided the best fit for his business was the Landmark Center, the large mixed-use development planned for downtown Fort Walton Beach. Patel has leased a 3,000 square foot space at the Landmark Center for the first Brass Tap restaurant in Okaloosa, Santa Rosa or Walton counties.
“We fell in love with the area and the vision for the center with the hotel and the cafe-style seating,” Patel said. “It just really felt like a good fit for the concept.”
The Landmark Center is a $33 million five-story, 144,000 square feet mixed-use project planned for the intersection of Perry Avenue and Miracle Strip Parkway in downtown Fort Walton Beach. It will feature a 112-room Hilton Home2 Suites, 24 loft condos, conference center, retail and dining space, parking garage and rooftop restaurant and sky bar.
Brass Tap is a craft beer bar and restaurant concept that started in Tampa and has been expanding across the county. There are now 23 restaurants nationwide and Patel, who owns the Northwest Florida franchising rights for the business, said that number is expected to double this year.
Brass Tap will feature 70 beers on tap with another 100 to 150 beers available in bottles. Patel said one thing that sets them apart from other beer-focused restaurants is that Brass Tap customizes its beer lineup for each individual location. About half of the beers at Brass Tap at Landmark Center will be from Florida breweries.
In addition to beer, Brass Tap will serve wine, sangria and will even be cigar-friendly with its patio seating and a selection of cigars for sale. Brass Tap will also have a full menu of upscale pub food, Patel said.
Brass Tap will also feature trivia nights, ladies nights and game nights with giant Jenga and Connect Four games.
It’s a different experience. It’s not just a bar
Patel said. “We look at it as a craft beer experience where you can try a great beer, great food and just a great atmosphere. I think that tied into what the Landmark Center was trying to do.
“They didn’t want just a bar,” he added. “They wanted something that offers something a little different and we do that.”
