‘In and out in 10 minutes’: Chain offering stay-in-your-car oil changes opens 1st Lehigh Valley shop

Take 5

The Lehigh Valley’s first Take 5 Oil Change shop opened recently at 2603 Mickley Ave. in Whitehall Township.

WHITEHALL TWP., Pa. – A rapidly growing chain offering “fast, friendly” oil changes is now welcoming customers in Lehigh County.

Take 5 Oil Change, offering full-service oil changes while customers stay in their vehicles, opened its first Lehigh Valley location a couple of weeks ago at 2603 Mickley Ave. in Whitehall Township.

To celebrate its opening, the facility is offering a limited time promotion of 50% off all oil changes, including conventional, full synthetic, synthetic blend and high mileage.

The Whitehall facility also offers other automotive services, including engine air filter replacement, cabin air filter replacement, coolant exchange and wiper blade replacement.

Veterans and active military members receive a 25% off discount.

“You’ll be in and out in 10 minutes,” a message on the business’ website reads.

Take 5 was founded in 1984 in Matairie, Louisiana as Rapid Oil Change, a business offering quick oil changes, minor vehicle repairs and other maintenance services, according to the business’ website.

Operations eventually expanded to include three shops in the area, and in 1996, Take 5 revolutionized its business model by offering a stay-in-your-car oil change. The shops featured shallow pits, drive-through oil changes, synchronized oil changes and fast, friendly service.

Take 5 continued to expand in the ensuing years, growing to 15 stores in 2005, 70 stores in 2016 and 500 stores in 2019 (a year after it began franchising).

“We know oil changes are important — thanks, Dad — so we strive to provide a fast, friendly experience that gets you back on the road, without getting out of your car,” a message on Take 5’s website reads. “While you’re here we will change your oil and filter, fill vital fluids, check your tire pressure and make your vehicle — and your dad — happy.”

In 2016, Take 5 was acquired by Driven Brands, the parent company to other leading North American automotive service brands, including Meineke Car Care Centers, Automotive Training Institute, Maaco, CARSTAR, ABRA, Uniban, 1-800-Radiator & A/C and PH Vitres d’Autos.
